Suzanne Bieber

September 20, 1951 — March 16, 2024

BIEBER, Suzanne - passed peacefully in her sleep after a battle with cancer on March 16, 2024, at the Ottawa General Hospital, with her daughter and husband by her side in her 73rd year.

Marie Suzanne Catherine Lise Bieber was born September 20, 1951, in Ottawa and is succeeded by her mother Marie-France Stitchman.   Survived by her husband of 44 years, Carl Bieber; her children, Jamie, Catherine and Hayden; as well as her predeceased sister Carole’s children, whom she thought of as her own, Glenn, Tony, Lawrence and Shanna. She is also survived by her sisters Diane and Donna, brothers Jimmy and Glenn, and many aunts, nieces, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Suzanne dedicated her life to family and raising her children, as well as caring for any other family, friend, or stranger who found their way into her home.

Suzanne was the oldest of 6 children, she grew up in Rouyn- Noranda, Quebec and came to Pembroke in her teens.. She had Jamie in 1972, travelled abroad with her boy, then came back to Pembroke where she met Carl Bieber in 1976, back in the days of the Pembroke Hotel, fast cars, wild nights, amazing music and endless summer fun between Fort William, Pembroke and the many stops in between. She always lived life in the fast lane, living with class and style everywhere she went. She was compassionate with a nurturing nature, taking in kids, making sure the little ones were ok. She was always a mother first, whether it be to her own siblings, their kids, or anyone’s friends who may have needed a place to go when things were rough, Mum always had a spot for them.

Her life…   a hard one to be summed up on paper, we could probably write a book about her adventures… Growing up in the 50’s wasn’t easy, not like it is now, life was very different. The girls and women of this generation are the last of the pioneers, everything was made from scratch, everything was hand washed, lined dried, and clothes likely made by hand, all the things we take for granted. The stories she would share were admirable.

She didn’t speak much, if any, English or wear jeans until she was out of her teens. She was always dressed to perfection, sporting a dress or a skirt with some super cute high heels. After she married Carl, when he was working away from home, they would frequently be meet up. She would pack up the kid/ kids, depending on who she had at the time, and meet up with her hunny. He was her greatest love and the best thing that ever happened to her. She loved Carl so much. The two of them together was something to see. He always made her feel safe and loved, she did the same for him. The connection they have is like no other. It’s a rare and special one to never forget. They were always up for a road trip and that has worn off on all the children she raised. Everything was a learning experience. She always made sure we had common sense and street smarts.

Suzanne and Carl moved around a bit but Pembroke was always where their heart was. She was happy to get back there in the early 2000’s, back with her family and friends. She loved the little jobs she had here. She loved camping at Blackbear, Round Lake, and Barry’s Bay with the family or with her crew of girls. One of her favourite things though was being a Mamere.  May her memory live on in the hearts of all those she loved.
