Obituary

Alexander Edmund Francis Morland passed away suddenly at his home in Petawawa on September 28, 2026. Born on January 8, 1988, and raised in Oakville, Alex was a beloved son, brother, husband, and uncle.

An avid athlete, he found his passion on the ice as a dedicated goalie and on the field playing baseball. The very traits that defined him, including his fierce loyalty, sensitivity to others, and athletic drive, naturally led him to a meaningful career in the military, where he served with dedication and purpose.

Sgt. Morland began his distinguished military career when he enlisted with the Canadian Armed Forces in November 2006. He was proudly assigned to the 1st Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment (1 RCR) as a mechanized infantry soldier. Throughout his twenty years of service, he deployed operationally to Afghanistan, Ukraine, and twice to Latvia. His deep love of the military truly defined him; he lived and breathed the soldier's life, and his unwavering commitment to his country and his comrades reflected the very core of who he was.

He is survived by his wife, Nicole, and her children, Jake and Taya; his loving parents, Karen and Ian; his brother, Chad; and his cherished nieces, Audrey and Amelia, whom he absolutely adored. He will also be deeply missed by many extended family members, friends, and those he had the privilege to serve with.

He was predeceased by his older brother, Eric; his maternal grandparents, Elsie and Edmund Mayer; his paternal grandparents, Mary and Francis Morland; and his great-uncle, Walter Baumgart.

A service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Malcolm Deavitt & Binhammer Funeral Home, located at 141 Renfrew St., Pembroke, Ontario.

Following the visitation, a Funeral Service with Military Honours will take place at 3:00 PM at the Royal Canadian Regiment (1RCR) Building Y-101,  377 Menin Rd, CFB Petawawa.  A reception will follow with details to be finalized.

In place of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in his memory to the Veterans Transition Network.
