It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Ruth Zadow at Miramichi Lodge on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at the age of 95 years.
Violet "Ruth" Zadow (nee Carnegie) of Pembroke, beloved wife of the late Desmond “Des” Zadow and by first marriage the late Garwin Wright. Loving mother of Gayle Hawthorne (Kevin), Beachburg; Barbara Shannon (Paul), Cobden; Daniel Zadow (Dene), Sudbury; Donna Dennison (late Jack), Pembroke; Debbie Zadow, Petawawa; late Patricia Johnston (Allen), Nanaimo BC and Michael Zadow (Patty), Petawawa. Cherished grandmother of Sheri Proulx (Derek), Steven Hawthorne (Shelley) and late Carrie-Ann; Greg Zadow & Rebecca Lipscomb (Phil); Pam Dennison (Todd) & Josh Dennison; Renee Silke (Travis) & Kelly Silke; Caitlin, Kristen & Morgan Johnston; Michael, Stephanie & Alissa Zadow. Great-Grandmother to 14. Survived and missed by her brother Donald Carnegie (Fyrne). Predeceased by her siblings; Elwill Carnegie (late Irene), Alvin Carnegie (late Pearl), Orma Wright (late Ellwood), Everett Carnegie, Weldon Carnegie, Cecil Carnegie (late Pearl), Jean Wright (late Lennox) and Wilma Carnegie. Daughter of the late John & Violet Carnegie (nee Wilson). Missed by several nieces and nephews.
Guided by her strong faith, she lived a life of kindness, compassion, quiet strength offering love and support to all around her. She had a love for travel, always returning with stories and memories to share. She will be especially remembered by her famous “Poppa Cookies”, a treasured tradition for her great-grandchildren. Her kindness, strength and unwavering support of love leave a lasting legacy in the hearts of her family. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Memorial Visitation will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 357 Miller St., Pembroke on Saturday, May 9th, 2026 from 10:00 till 10:45 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Interment in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Pembroke. A luncheon will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. John’s Lutheran Church are appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Malcolm, Deavitt & Binhammer Funeral Home, Pembroke.
