Peter Walter Rumohr
On Thursday, October 23, 2025 our beloved Dad passed away peacefully with family by his side after four years fighting a courageous comeback from a debilitating stroke.
Peter was born on February 28, 1941, a "favourite" son of Hazel (nee Whitehead) and Len Rumohr. He married the love of his life, Lorna (nee Cochrane) 62 years ago. Together they proudly raised their girls, Lori (Philip Corriveau) and Christine (Fred Kuzniarz). Dad cherished his family and excelled at being a "Girl's Dad". Peter adored being Grandpa and Great Grandpa Peter to grandchildren Joel, Katie (Jon Keller) Prescott and William (Nathanya), Sarah Kuzniarz and great grandchildren Cameron, Caleb and Cayden Prescott and Lila and Max Keller. Peter leaves behind a loving extended family in the Rumohr, Cochrane and O'Brien clans, He was a beloved brother to Len (Shirley) Rumohr, the late Don (Joan) Rumohr, Joan (late Ron, Late Jim) Leduc, Judi (late Wayne) Saar, Rose (late Keith) Saar, Marion Lemottee, the late Ruth Penberthy and the late Beth (Orland Peterson) McCann. He was a cherished brother-in-law to the late Donna (late Cliff) VanKoughnett, the late David (Sharon) Cochrane and Neil (Cathy) Cochrane. Peter had a close brotherly bond with cousins Dale and Lois O'Brien and their family. He also had a treasured lifelong friendship with the family of the late Gib and Clare Lamarche embracing them as his own.
Peter started his working career alongside his brother Don at McGrath and Lafrance Collection Agency. In 1968 he began working for Brum's Dairy in the Accounts Department and remained a devoted employee for 38 years, retiring at the age of 65 in 2006. In 1997 he became a Licensed Lay Preacher in the United Church and served throughout the Ottawa Valley with pride and a strong faith until is retirement at the age of 80. Over the years he worked tirelessly at Wesley United as the Church Treasurer and volunteered for every committee from Stewarts to Trustees to Christmas Decorating. Peter worked with the youth in his community as a Sunday School teacher, Boy Scout Leader, Baseball Coach and co-founder of the Pembroke Minor Girls Softball League.He also was a member of the Kiwanis Club and Treasurer of the Champlain Trail Museum. His love of sports was endless, watching and cheering whether it was the Masters, the Toronto Argos, the Montreal Canadians or the Toronto Blue Jays. He was in his glory watching a game. This was evident in local sports as well, with his 40 year standing as a season ticket holder for the Pembroke Lumber Kings, his annual membership at the Island Brae Golf Course and as a devoted fan of the Upper Ottawa Valley Mens Fastball League.
Our family will miss him more than words can say, but you can never forget someone who has given you so much to remember.
We sincerely thank Dr. Timpson and the PRH Stroke Rehab team, Bayshore and Access PSW's, Ontario Health at Home Coordinators and Supples Landing staff who cared for Peter with kindness and professionalism. Our family will be forever grateful to Miramichi Lodge 3A Nursing and Dietary teams for the support, care and compassion shown to Peter in the last few months.
Peter's family will receive friends at the Malcolm, Deavitt & Binhammer Funeral Home, 141 Renfrew St., Pembroke on Saturday, November 1, 2025 from 2:00 - 6:00 p.m. A celebration of his life will be held at Wesley United Church on Sunday, November 2, 2025 at 2:00 p.m., followed by interment in Wesley United Cemetery, Pembroke. The service will be live streamed and is available by clicking this link.
