With sadness, we announce the passing of Martin (Marty) Lawrence Markus of Pembroke, beloved husband of the late Theresa Markus (née Godin). Loving father of Larry Markus and Karen Markus (Chris Marion), both of Pembroke.
Marty passed away peacefully at the Pembroke Regional Hospital on Saturday, July 12th, 2025, in his 96th year.
Son of the late Lorne and Emma Markus (née Roesler), Marty was predeceased by his siblings Carolina Barker (late William) and Everett Markus (Monica). Survived by his sister-in-law June Godin, as well as several beloved nieces, nephews, and Godchildren.
Marty lived a life guided first and foremost by his deep faith in God, and his love for his family was steadfast and enduring. His children continue to carry forward the values he instilled in them with strength and devotion.
An avid deer hunter, Marty also found great joy in fishing for pickerel from the family cottage on Cotnam’s Island. Armed with his trusted Canadian Wiggler, he reeled in countless catches, leading to many cherished fish fries shared with loved ones through the years.
He and Theresa were truly blessed to be surrounded by loving and supportive neighbours, who became lifelong friends. Their home and cottage were places of warmth, laughter, and belonging, often filled with the joyful bustle of family gatherings, heartfelt conversations, and the simple pleasures of time spent together.
Together, they enjoyed many memorable trips with family and friends, always cherishing the bonds that connected them. Marty also remained close to his extended family, including his dear brothers- and sisters-in-law, who played a meaningful role throughout his life.
Marty’s love was steady, his faith unshakable, and his presence a true blessing to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever loved.
A special thank you to Dr. Carolyn Faught, a truly kindred spirit who won Marty over with her professionalism, candor, and personal connection.
