Passed away surrounded by the love of her family on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at the age of 94 years.
Marian Patterson-Coombes (nee McIntyre) of Pembroke, wife of the late Rhodes Patterson and by second marriage the late Dr. Archibald Coombes. Dear mother of Geoffrey Patterson (Laurie), Cobden. Grandmom to Robert Patterson (Colleen Jones) and Jane Patterson (Alex Adams). Predeceased by parents Robert & Vera McIntyre (nee Black); and brothers Garth McIntyre (Betty) and Lynden McIntyre (Elaine). Survived by sister-in-law Margaret Anderson (Jim). Lovingly remembered by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Marian was born and raised on a farm in Micksburg, Ontario, where she developed a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for family, faith and local history. Education was always a priority for her, leading her to pursue a long and successful career as a teacher and administrator. Her passion for genealogy began with compiling family history, but continued to grow over the years inspiring her to author "A History of Stafford Township (1835-1991)". Community development and beautification were also some of Marian’s greatest passions - she served as a city councillor for the City of Pembroke for over a decade and was a strong advocate and eventual judge for the “Communities in Bloom” project in Pembroke and other cities across Canada. Marian’s interests also included cooking, golfing, bridge, and travelling, though her garden was her happy place - she spent countless hours growing beautiful flowers and vegetables to share with loved ones. Marian will be deeply missed by all those whose lives she touched over the years. The family extends their sincere gratitude to the medical staff for the care that made Marian’s final days peaceful and comfortable.
