Maria Jenny Wilhelmina Richards

With love and gratitude for her life, the family of Maria Richards (nee Vasey) announces her passing at home on July 16, 2025, in her 80th year. Maria passed peacefully, surrounded by family, having lived her life with a resilience that will be remembered by all who knew her.

Maria was the cherished wife of Dean Richards, with whom she shared many years of devotion and partnership. Mother to Stephen Cohn (Tracey) and Jo-Anne Magne. Oma to Zachary Cohn (Rebecca), Nicholas Cohn, Matthew Cohn (Leah) & Benjamin Cohn; and Madison Magne (Andrew Keck) & Luc Magne (Katie). She was also G.G. to her great-grandchildren: Henry, Ivy-Mae; Jackson, Lincoln, and Sadie. Survived by her sister Linda Swyers and brother Rick Sweetzer. Predeceased by parents Alexander and Marie Vasey (nee Timmer), and sisters Brenda and Sandra Vasey.

Maria’s life was defined by quiet strength and an unwavering commitment to her own principles. She will be missed by all who knew her, and fondly remembered for her sharp wit and her ability to stay true to herself, even when it defied convention.

Her family will celebrate her life privately in accordance with Maria’s wishes. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to the Canadian Cancer Society. Arrangements entrusted to Malcolm, Deavitt & Binhammer Funeral Home, Pembroke.
