Kyle Mustard

It is with extremely heavy hearts that we announce the sudden and untimely passing of Kyle Edward Wallace Mustard at the age of 38 on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. The heartbreaking end of Kyle’s life has left an immeasurable emptiness in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. We grieve the passing of an extraordinary man whose presence touched countless lives and whose memory will be cherished forever.

Kyle was a devoted father, husband, son, brother, nephew, cousin, son-in-law, brother-in-law, and dear friend. He will be remembered for his compassionate heart, gentle soul, unwavering kindness, and selfless generosity. His genuine care for others created lasting connections that will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Kyle was predeceased by his brother, Ryan Mustard, his grandparents, Wally and Pat Hook and Frank and Colette Mustard as well as his aunt, Shirley Mustard. He leaves behind his two beautiful boys, Leith and Arlo, his wife, Hannah, his cats Denali and Snowdon, his dogs, Ellie and Ben, his parents, Wendy and Kevin, his sister, Rachel, his mother-in-law, Anita, his brother-in-law, Dominic (Paige), his great aunt, Dorothy Whalen, his uncles and aunts, Ron Mustard (Maggie), Bill Hook (Laurie), Jean Riddell, Greg Mustard, Tom Hook (Doris), and Vicki and Jay Barker, as well as his many cousins, their children, his colleagues from a variety of workplaces, including Parks Canada and Algonquin Park/Ontario Parks, and numerous friends from around the world.

Kyle was born and raised through his teenage years in Midland, Ontario. He enjoyed travelling and had an incredible sense of adventure and desire to explore the world around him. This led him to study in his post-secondary years, not only in Ontario, but also in Nova Scotia, where he earned his BA with a double major in the areas of Environment, Sustainability and Society and History at Dalhousie University, and in England, where he met his wife and earned his MSc in Sustainability (Environment and Development) at The University of Leeds. He even spent some time in Tanzania completing his thesis paper about how important the concept of play is for children and how it’s being used as a tool for development of underserved areas of the world during his Masters Degree studies. During his university years he was able to tour and travel around Europe with his family, his friends, and his new (equally adventurous) travel partner, Hannah.

Kyle dedicated his career to others in both outreach and managerial positions. He was driven to support his staff and colleagues with empathy and strong leadership skills. He was known by his staff in his many roles within Parks Canada and at Algonquin Park as a wonderful boss who was both a friend and mentor to those who worked with and for him.

When he wasn’t working, nothing brought Kyle greater joy than spending time with his two boys, sharing with them his love of the outdoors, connecting through Lego, cheering on his favourite teams like the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Toronto Blue Jays, and Leeds United, and going on outings with them to get ice cream. Kyle had a love for fast food, often venturing to McDonald’s locations around the world with Hannah, including places like Colombia (where they went on their honeymoon) and many locations across Europe. They also shared a love for the Harry Potter series, even including passages from the books in their wedding vows.

Kyle was an incredibly hardworking, caring, loving, and generous person who would go out of his way to help and support those he loved. He had a great respect for nature, the environment, and animals, and he truly believed in the need to conserve our resources and use sustainable practices so that the beauty of our environment can be enjoyed by generations to come. He had a fantastic sense of humour and a quick wit. He often came up with one-liners and dad jokes that would either make everyone around him laugh or groan at what he came up with. Kyle’s legacy will remain in the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to have shared in his life. The kindness, warmth, and joy he brought to others will continue to resonate through the many people he inspired and beyond. Though he is no longer with us, his memory, influence, and the love he gave will live on, offering lasting comfort and treasured memories to all who knew him.

Kyle, we hope that wherever you are, you and Ryan are enjoying a beer together. Until we meet again, cheers and we love you!

The family requests that donations be made to either Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society - Northwest Territories or the Jumpstart Foundation in memory of Kyle. Your support is greatly appreciated and will honour Kyle’s commitment to conserving the environment and the accessibility of sport. As per Kyle’s wishes, there will be no end of life event.
