Kim Cleveland

d. January 16, 2015

CLEVELAND, Kim - Kim Elizabeth Murphy, in her 57th year, went to heaven on January 16th 2015, at the Ottawa General Hospital after an eight year courageous battle with cancer, never giving up until the last day. Born October 9th, 1958, in Val d'Or, Quebec, eldest daughter of Carl and Patricia Murphy. Kim graduated from Banting Memorial High School in 1978 and continued her Post Secondary education at Georgian College in Barrie as a Medical Secretary. Kim started work the day after she completed her Post Secondary training at the Alliston Memorial Hospital. After marrying her husband Bob on May 9th 1981, they travelled to Russia where she worked at the Canadian Embassy as an immigration assistant. Upon returning to Canada, Kim worked at the Pembroke Civic Hospital, X-ray Dept, until 1988. They were posted to CFB Baden Germany where Kim was employed as the Base Surgeon secretary. In 1993, Kim and Bob returned to Pembroke for their final posting and Kim was employed at the Pembroke General Hospital in the Diagnostic Imagining Dept the day she arrived home, until present. Kim was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church, Locksley, where she enjoyed the friendship of the congregation and being with her avid quilters on Mondays and at St. Timothy's Lutheran Church on Tuesdays. Kim is survived by her five loving daughters, Amanda Brazeau (Jason Brazeau), Amy Cleveland (Fritz Pfahl), Melissa Cleveland (Blake Benoit), Megan Cleveland, and Alana Cleveland (Paul Ziegel), as well as Bentley Cleveland Pfahl, her only grandson. Kim is also survived by her two sisters, Lynn Lewis and Jill Dermott, four nieces and one nephew, four grandnieces and one grandnephew. Kim has enjoyed travelling but most of all she loved to quilt where she met many great friends around the area with the same passion. One of Kim's other joys was being a billet mom for the Pembroke Lumber Kings for six years. A special thank you to Dr. Touchie, Dr. Munroe, Dr. Smyth, Genie Jarvis, Dr. Pantarotto, Dr. Jonker and all the nursing and PSW staff at the Ottawa General hospital for going out of their way to make her last days comfortable and dignified. Visitation at the Malcolm, Deavitt & Binhammer Funeral Home, 141 Renfrew St. Pembroke, on Friday January 23rd 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, Locksley, 423 Witt Rd. Laurentian Valley, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday January 24th 2015. In lieu of flowers, Kim's wishes were that donations be made out to the Pembroke Regional Hospital MRI fund or Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church (Locksley).
