SCHLEEN, Joyce - It is with great sadness that her family announces the passing of Joyce Ann Schleen, peacefully at Marianhill, Pembroke, on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, in her 90th year.
Joyce Schleen (nee Huebner) of Pembroke, beloved wife of Lloyd Schleen and by first marriage, the late Tom M. Leclaire. Much loved mother of Anne Leclaire and Laurie Serran (William) of Pembroke. Cherished and proud Nana of Megan Chase (Blake Novello), Hoboken, New Jersey; Tommy Serran (Natasha), Pembroke; and Sean “Skinny” Serran (Kathryn Ritchie), Arnprior. Dearest great-grandmother of Slate, Brock and Teagan Serran. Step-grandmother to Chris Blackstock (Holly Dunn) and their children Isla, Edward and Baron, Chichester. A wonderful sister to Beverly Cochrane-Quigley and sister-in-law to Bill MacKinnon, Dallas Boudens, and Carle Leclaire (Shirley), all of Pembroke; and Bernard Leclaire (Rachel), Renfrew. Daughter of the late Lorne and Annie Huebner. Predeceased by her youngest sister Ann MacKinnon. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by many nieces and nephews.
Joyce lived a life of service to her community through her more than 25 years of volunteer work with both the Pembroke Civic and General Hospital Auxiliaries, Pembroke Regional Hospital (ticket sales), Canadian Cancer Society Daffodil Campaign, Meals on Wheels, St. Joseph’s Food Bank and Pembroke Fiddling and Step dancing Committee. She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humour, her generosity of spirit and her love of fine purses and shoes.
Her family would like to express their gratitude to the wonderful nurses and PSWs at Marianhill for their compassion and loving care to Joyce during her time with them.
Memorial visitation will be held at the Malcolm, Deavitt & Binhammer Funeral Home, 141 Renfrew St., Pembroke on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 454 Miller St., Pembroke on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Fellowship and interment in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery to follow. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Food Bank, a cause dear to Joyce’s heart.
