BUTLER, Jessie Elma (nee Ferguson) – we are saddened and heartbroken that our beautiful, precious mother passed away at St. Louis Long Term Care in Orleans, Ontario on Monday, August 10, 2026 at the age of 92 years. She is now gone to reunite with our father Gordon Butler who passed away on July 16, 2018 . Dear mother of Shirley Lastiwka (Yvon), Ottawa; Gloria Bergsma (Alex), Kanata; Connie Moreau (Dan), St.Albert and Stewart Ferguson (Brenda), Pembroke. Cherished grandmother of Tyler Lastiwka; Karen Bergsma & late Laura; Jason & Justin Moreau; Chantal Barratt (Dean), Michael Ferguson, Joshua Ferguson & Jeremiah Ferguson. Great-Grandmother to 12 great-grandchildren. Survived and missed by brothers Ray Ferguson (late Ann), Ottawa & Gerald Ferguson (Gwen), Napanee. Predeceased by parents Alpin & Emily Ferguson (nee Burd), sister Flossie Simmons (late Roy), brothers Grant Ferguson & Howard Ferguson (late Barbara). Survived by many nieces and nephews.

Mom was born in St. Albert, Ontario on Friday, July 27, 1934 to Alpin & Emily Ferguson. Mom started her working days at the Winchester Hospital. Her dream was to become a nurse. She then moved to Ottawa to study nursing at the Grace Hospital. She graduated from there in 1954, and was given an award for Obstetrical Nursing. On January 2, 1955 she started her long nursing career at the Cottage Hospital in Pembroke. It was renamed in 1960, Pembroke Civic Hospital. She worked there until she retired. Mom and dad were married on August 31, 1957, they were just shy of 61 years of marriage. Together they raised four children, Shirley, Gloria, Connie and Stewart. Mom loved to entertain, bake and work in her gardens, but most of all she loved helping others. She volunteered at Supples Landing and helped out at the church. She was a very loving, giving and understanding mother and friend to many, and she knew who we were right to the end. She will be truly missed.

A graveside service for Jessie & Gordon will be held at Calvin United Cemetery, Pembroke on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. As an expression of sympathy, donations to Calvin Memorial Fund or the Canadian Cancer Society are appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Malcolm, Deavitt & Binhammer Funeral Home, Pembroke.
