Baker, Isabel Mary (retired from the Pembroke Civic Hospital) - passed away at Marianhill, Pembroke on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 in her 95th year.

Isabel Baker (nee Appler) of Pembroke, dearly loved wife of the late Carl Baker (2013).  Mother of Dr. David Baker (Diana), Middletown, Maryland; and Gordon Baker (Patricia), Milford, Ohio. Grandmother to Heather Osborn (Kris), Phillip Baker (Megan), and Valerie Baker (Duncan). Great-grandmother to Cecilia Baker.  Daughter of the late John and Martha Appler, and the sixth of seven siblings. Isabel is also survived by her younger brother Clarence Appler, Pembroke and her older sister Margaret Rivers, Napanee.  Special aunt to Beverly Blundon (Lloyd), Pembroke.  Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Isabel began her work career as a Bell Telephone switchboard operator in Pembroke, and after her children were in school, she returned to work as an Admission Receptionist at the former Pembroke Civic Hospital.  Isabel was a faithful believer in Christ, and a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pembroke, where for many years she taught Sunday School and was active in the Ladies Aid and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.   She enjoyed baking, gardening, creating decoupage layered paper pictures, and hosting family gatherings at her home and cottage.  She and Carl enjoyed dancing and the company of others in many social clubs in the Pembroke area.  Isabel touched many lives with her kindness, generosity, and love.

A private family funeral service will be held in the chapel of the Malcolm, Deavitt & Binhammer Funeral Home, Pembroke and the public is invited to share in this service online on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 1 p.m.  To view the service bulletin, click here.  Interment in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Pembroke.  (As an expression of sympathy, donations to St. John’s Lutheran Church or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.)  Online condolences, donations and livestreaming are available at www.mdbfuneralhome.com.
