Dean Knowles “Sam Dament” passed away peacefully surrounded with music, dogs and love of those dearest to him on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at the age of 60 years.
Dean Knowles, also known for 44 years as Rodney Dament, commonly referred to as Sam Dament, and most honoured to be called Dad by Lyndsay Dament and Deidre Avgerinos (Shane). Extremely proud Papa to Lylli, Liam (Wade) & Lincoln; and Cody, Nykos & Maverick and even to dogs Brody & Storm. Adopted and raised by parents the late Frank & the late Grace Dament (nee Cooke). Born to Betty McLean (late Bill), whom he was able to connect with in these last few years. Brother of Tim Dament. He shared a unique bond with his best-friend of 45 years Lynn LaRochell (Rob) and his daughter’s mother Angie McDonnell (Bill).
Dean had a passion for music from a young age, which landed him the roll as an amateur DJ at many social events. He was easy-going but always going, rarely sitting idle. This work ethic and drive to keep busy was perfect for his roll as a cook at Copperfield’s in Downtown Pembroke for many years before becoming a dedicated bus driver for 20 years with Valley Transportation. He truly loved driving bus, especially on occasions when he had his own grandchildren aboard. He was a dog whisperer who had a connection with every dog he met, especially Rottweilers. He bred and trained them for many years, he’ll finally be reunited with his most beloved companion, his last Rottweiler, Mettayo.
Dean would not want everyone sitting around mourning this significant loss, he would want a party at his best-bud’s shop where he spent many hours puttering on vehicles and shootin’ the bull, with food, drinks, smokes, music, friends and family – and that’s just what we’ll do on Saturday, May 16, 2026 starting at 12:00 p.m. at Deidre's house, 2271 Petawawa Blvd. with all parking next door at Pineview Public School. Formal arrangements entrusted to the Malcolm, Deavitt & Binhammer Funeral Home, Pembroke. In loving memory of Dean, donations to The Ottawa Hospital – Cancer Research are appreciated.
