Constance Hodgson

Sep 9, 1924 — Aug 7, 2026

The children of “Marvelous” Constance “Connie” Hodgson are heartbroken to tell the world our precious mom has gone to join our dad Stephen Hodgson (1925-1984), a month shy of her 102nd birthday.

She was born to Frank Guy Conrad Pines and Eva Pines (nee Williamson) on September 9, 1924 at Stornoway, Outer Hebrides, Scotland.

Mom joined the ATS in England during WWII, where she met Steph, the two were married February 23, 1946. They made their way to Canada in 1951 with their first child to make a Canadian life for their family.

She was spunky, lively, fiercely independent, a loyal friend, and “Ann Landers” to all she met. Maybe you met her on the Island Brae Golf Course or in the clubhouse yelling, “EMERGENCY” and only the bartender could help her with a cold Canadian beer. Maybe you met her at the curling club on the ice or socializing at one of the many events there. Maybe you met her at a United Church Women’s meeting over tea and squares. Maybe you met her at Rebekah Lodge. Maybe you met her at Wesley United Church. Maybe it was at Round Lake, her little piece of Heaven on Earth, sitting with Daphne for a cuppa. Wherever it was, she was a social butterfly, welcoming you with her huge smile.

She is survived by her children, who will forever be in awe of her “get up and do it” attitude: Susan Vaillancourt (Jean-Paul), Windsor; Jennifer Belec (Ron), Pembroke; and Ian Hodgson (Pauline), Pembroke. The children who predeceased her will be overjoyed their mother has joined them Catherine Margaret Hodgson (1956-1962) and Beverley Anne Robinson (1953-2013) (late Bob). Granny to Kimberley Kovacevich (Louis) & Richard Vaillancourt (Christina); Matthew & Ian Belec; Kelsey Hodgson (Darrin Skinner), Lee Hodgson (Giana), Christine LeClair & Emilie Côte; and Andrew, Emily, Robert & Shawla Robinson. Great-Granny to Natasha, Alexa, Alyssa, Max, Darwin, Clover, Seth, Mazie & Keagan. Survived by sister-in-law Sheila Kellett (late Allan), England. Missed by her cat Charlie, many nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceased by brothers Frankie Pines (1922-1923) and James Pines (1922-2003) (late Mabel).

Thank you to all of Connie’s Army: the PSWs who loved and helped her to live in her own home, especially Tara & Tabitha; Renfrew County Paramedics; her huge circle of friends who built a village around her, fed her, loved her and visited her, especially Gisele, Jackie, Carol, Jane, Ivy, John, Deborah and Lois. Thank you to the 2nd Floor Medical staff, you are a special group of people.

Memorial Visiting will be held at the Malcolm, Deavitt & Binhammer Funeral Home, 141 Renfrew St., Pembroke on Friday, August 14, 2026 from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 72 are invited to gather at the funeral home for a Legion Service starting at 2:30 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel at 3:00 p.m. The Memorial Service will be available virtually by following the link. Interment of ashes in Wesley United Cemetery. Luncheon to follow at Wesley United Church Lower Hall. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, donations to the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 72 or Pembroke Regional Hospital Cancer Care would be appreciated. These causes, along with many more, were close to Connie’s heart, but what was most important to her was sharing laughter, spreading joy, and donating acts of kindness wherever she went every single day.
